The speaker from VietnamWorks shared statistics on employment for “Entry Level” candidates in recent years, information on hot industries in the last 2 years, and “key” skills that open the door to success in the challenging practical career reality of the modern labor market.
Speaker Nguyen Son Lam – Recruitment Expert from VietnamWorks along with M.A. Nguyen Thi Thieu – Head of External Relations Department
To open the door to success, you need to have “keys”. According to speaker Son Lam, those keys include: The key of beginning, the key of breakthrough, the key of difference, and finally the key of luck.
The key of beginning
- Understand yourself: To understand who you are, you have many ways to explore yourself: You can take personality tests, do dermatoglyphics, participate in professional competitions or social activities, proactively put yourself in controlled challenging situations, etc.
- Self-management: Initially, you need to set goals to orient yourself on what to do next (goals must be clear, specific, measurable; goals must have a completion deadline; goals must be feasible, attractive, and challenging so that you do not get bored when executing them; and goals must be commensurate with what you are willing to sacrifice. From the initial goals you set, build a plan by breaking the plan down into each step, and attach a completion milestone for each step so that you do not procrastinate uncontrollably. And finally, execute the previously proposed plan, remember that doing a little but regularly every day is better than doing a lot at once – having to handle too many accumulated tasks at once for a long time will make you bored with your own plan and lead to failing to complete goals on time.
- Self-leadership: Try to improve yourself with self-leadership skill sets: Emotional management skills, information processing skills, decision-making skills, time management skills, etc.
The key of breakthrough
If you have the ability to self-study, it means you already have the key of breakthrough. Self-study also helps you hone yourself, cultivate useful knowledge, explore other aspects on your own, and self-study helps you acquire knowledge proactively while developing a mindset of not relying on or depending on the urging of others.
The key of difference
Learn to think positively so that you have the motivation to develop every day. Stop negative thoughts like it’s too hard, I can’t do it, etc., and instead think if everyone else can do it, I can do it too, I will learn and I will try, mistakes will help me learn something, etc. “Success is not about never making mistakes, but about never making the same mistake a second time.”
The key of luck
Luck does not happen naturally; the lucky things you get are exchanged for your attitude towards the people around you. Necessary attitudes include: polite attitude, respecting superiors and being kind to subordinates, knowing how to treat people; open attitude, proactively building relationships with everyone; enthusiastic attitude, proactively helping people; diligent and hardworking attitude; eager-to-learn attitude; etc.
Labor market and employment trends
According to the sharing of speaker Son Lam, the Vietnamese labor market in 2023 had: 82% of surveyed businesses in Vietnam affected by global economic fluctuations. The majority of Vietnamese businesses chose to cut less than 25% of personnel. 69% of workers did not lose their jobs and still worked stably, but the rate of finding new jobs after losing a job remains relatively low (at 11.4%). 43.3% of workers reported receiving a salary increase from 5% to under 10%. Personnel facing salary reductions accounted for a minority with decreases ranging from 15% to under 20%. Nearly 70% of workers still received mandatory benefits from the Organization/Business they work for.
Speaker Son Lam also forecasted the Vietnamese labor market in 2024: Over 50% of businesses will still recruit more personnel in the coming year and prioritize candidates with problem-solving skills. 3 main groups of candidates: Personnel with problem-solving skills and 1-3 years of experience (not yet in management); fresh graduates; Department Manager level.
In addition, the speaker also provided data on the top 10 industries with the highest number of jobs in 2022 and 2023, as well as the corporate departments that will prioritize recruitment in the coming year: The top industry is Sales / Consulting (accounting for 62.30%), followed by Manufacturing / Production, Advertising / Promotions, Customer Service, research and development, Information Technology, Finance and Banking / Accounting, Human Resources, Legal, engineering, and finally General Administration.
