Information Technology, E-commerce, healthcare, and tourism services are predicted to bounce back strongly in the labor market once the Covid-19 pandemic passes
On the morning of October 19, an online talkshow titled “Post-Covid-19 Career Trends” took place vibrantly with the participation of more than 600 students from various majors. This was the opening talkshow of a series of 07 online seminars organized by the Center for Business Relation and Student Support – External Relations Department of HUFLIT, with the desire to open up practical solutions for students’ career development journeys and update the latest knowledge about the labor market in Vietnam.
Throughout the seminar, economic shifts were raised by Mr. Vo Minh Tuan – HR Director of Sieu Viet Human Resources Joint Stock Company, who also emphasized the industries assessed to become attractive as the social situation gradually stabilizes.
Future Job Trends
First, jobs related to Information Technology will strongly develop as they are not heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, specifically computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, and software development. The direct participation of online teamwork applications in connecting people when the pandemic occurred worldwide is also one of the clearest proofs of the role of technology.
“Some other industries such as product design, data engineers, and Data Analytics will catch up with industry trends in the Industry 4.0 Revolution. Particularly, Artificial Intelligence (AI) research will require high-qualified human resources, so businesses are ready to offer attractive salaries to workers who have sufficient capacity and fit the business,” Mr. Tuan shared.
Next is E-commerce. Perhaps, this phrase is no longer too strange to the younger generation as online shopping from this target group on E-commerce platforms grows continuously, thereby leading to a surge in recruitment demand for other industries such as Supply Chain & Logistics, Digital Marketing, Business Analysis,…
Healthcare and medical industries have also successively recorded a growth explosion compared to before. If market demand before the pandemic already required a lot of human resources, it will demand even more now. Therefore, positions related to biochemistry, cell technology, biological sciences, and medical services, healthcare services have also received more attention from society.
Mr. Tuan further shared that among the aforementioned industries, F&B (Food & Beverage) is one of the industries suffering heavily due to the long-term social distancing period, accompanied by a sharp decrease in eating out demand because workers’ incomes were negatively impacted.
However, this industry is predicted to return to optimism soon, at a time when people need to find places for relaxation, entertainment, and to meet group dining and gatherings.
Overview of Vietnam’s Labor Market
Since December 2019, Vietnam has experienced 4 major outbreaks. Among them, the most heavily affected was the 4th pandemic wave that just broke out at the end of April, causing much damage to Vietnam’s economy. Specifically, GDP in 2021 grew negatively, and the unemployment rate of workers was also higher than in previous years.
Regarding the labor market, more than 80,000 companies withdrew from the Vietnamese market, leading to about 12.8 million workers being negatively affected by the pandemic. Nearly 1.2 million workers fell into unemployment, failing to meet their living needs.
“However, everyone should look forward to a brighter prospect because in danger there must be opportunities,” Mr. Tuan assessed, “Post-pandemic recruitment demand will become vibrant again, so students need to prepare thoroughly to integrate into the ‘New Normal’ state optimally and most effectively.”
