INSPIRED BY HISTORY
At the heart of La Veranda is the story of its founder, Madame Catherine, whose deep family connection to Phú Quốc and Indochine inspired the soul of the resort.

Born in 1935, Madame Catherine grew up between Phnom Penh and the waterways surrounding Tonlé Sap Lake. Her family history was deeply connected to Phú Quốc, beginning with her grandfather’s journey to the island in the 19th century, where he initially dreamed of cultivating pepper before life and love took the family on a new journey to Phnom Penh.

Decades later, memories of her family’s origins and her life in Indochine eventually brought Catherine back to Phú Quốc. She purchased a seaside plot and originally envisioned creating a home for her retirement – a personal refuge overlooking the sea and a living connection to her family heritage.

Designed and decorated according to her personal vision, the mansion was inspired by the elegance of 1920s French colonial Indochine. It later became the heart of La Veranda Resort.

Today, the main house remains a living expression of Madame Catherine’s story. From the architecture and furnishings to the artworks and period collectibles, every detail has been thoughtfully selected to preserve the spirit of her remarkable journey from Phú Quốc to Phnom Penh – and ultimately back to the island of her ancestors.
